Working in a highly technical industry (nuclear), assuming that someone that is confident in a subject is less likely to be knowledgeable is not my experience. I don't consider myself an expert at a lot of things...but, the few things I do consider myself an expert at, I am both highly confident AND highly knowledgeable... Ask me about project management of first of a kind multi-billion dollar plutonium processing facility projects...

Bill,

Do we know each other? I too have experience in the Nuclear Industry, Savannah River Site.

On your comment, in a work environment I'd expect people that have responsibility within the industry, would have confidence. Another way to consider this is that those who have a deep knowledge on a subject, understand the many gray areas such as in a technical industry. People who aren't as knowledgeable seem to see the issue in black and white.

I get this quite a bit when someone wants to debate a cartoon of mine because they don't agree with it. I had one such discussion with another editorial cartoonist who said emphatically that "walls are racist." Then started muttering to himself after I pointed out how walls help keep out human traffickers, drugs, terrorists, and gangs....and that Joe Biden has a wall around his own house.
